can councillor robert parker and the llra tell me and residents of what is happening to the site which the building of the sec centre stands. it has been vandalised with smashed windows at the back. the land is overgrown and both building and the land is showing neglect and looks awful. no one is using it and has been left to rot for a few years. shocking!

there is continual talk over this plot. the last lot of plans that went for consideration at the end of May-ish offered a possible choice of 10% of the land for community use (but no money to do anything on it) or some money but no land. every time we confirm that residents would like some commercial use like a shop too. Last I heard it should be razed by the end of the year but that was before there was 'no money'...

All is not entirely lost yet!

The latest on the SEC is that I spoke to Rob Parker on this matter as follow up to the feedback we (LLRA) gave on the planning application back in May/June.

Essentially, the developers offered 10% of the site, or 10% of the site value toward "community use". The feedback we gave was that would get us an empty plot, or more cash in the bank than we could probably use, but in neither case do we get a community use hall (or enough to build one), so what else could we do.

Rob Parker visited to discuss possible options. An additional possibilty was raised that perhaps some community use facility could be incorporated as part of the hospital development, as is done on some other NHS and council owned sites, possibly by diverting some of that "10%" from the SEC development to the hospital development. This would relieve local residents (whether LLRA or not) of the responsibility of owning and running the facility, whilst still giving access to something "on the doorstep" to hire on an ad hoc basis - just like a village hall.

We don't know if this is a viable proposition or not, but Rob took it away to explore with County Council and NHS representatives. Currently, I'm still awaiting feedback, which I admit is overdue, but confess I haven't been chasing due to recent complications in my personal life.

If I get any further information, I'll pass it along. If there's something that warrants discussion, I'll call an AGM - we're about due for one.
