West Parade/Beaumont Fee Junction

Postby Robert Parker » Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:43 pm

There have been new temporary arrangements in place at the junction of West Parade and Beaumont Fee since February this year.

The County Council are now consulting on whether the current arrangements should be made permanent and a decision is likely to be made on 1st September. Following discussions with local residents as the local County Councillor I have objected to the proposal as it stands. I have said that there needs to be in place some form of pedestrian crossing close to the junction of West Parade and Beaumont Fee to ensure people can cross safely if the scheme is to proceed. If you want to have your say on this proposal then you can contact the Director of Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, 4th Floor, City Hall, Orchard Street, Lincoln LN1 1DN or email on Dev_HT_GLAG@lincolnshire.gov.uk .

I think Robert is probably right about the crossing facility, a good old fashioned zebra on West parade the city side of Beaumont fee would be helpful and have little impact on the traffic travelling out of the centre. Overall I like the scheme and think it should stay.

The benefits are, 1) some useful short stay spaces on west parade which are ideal for nipping to the bank etc 2)the creation of a full one way circuit around the city centre( shouldn't all one way systems make a circuit?).

I think a little adjustment of the new give way junction at Beaumont fee and west parade will make visibility better and safer. That all said it has always looked like a done deal to me as it was all a bit permanent..

If they have any tarmac left over I think the residents of Dorrigan close will be interested..

Agree, visibility is very poor coming out onto a bend with two way traffic. It would help a bit if the railing on the left wasn't there ...! I think it's a done deal too but I will be commenting on the visibility aspect. Also I now turn left up Park Street (very narrow) to drop down onto Silver Street, doesn't save much unless the lights are on red but it's habit now. There's always new busier routes created when traffic schemes change!

Reply from Highways and traffic:

"Thank you for your recent email concerning the experimental one way scheme in Lincoln.

You mention your concerns about the West Parade junction with Beaumont Fee in particular. Options for addressing the difficulties at this junction - for both drivers and pedestrians - are currently being considered, and will be implemented as soon as possible should the trial become permanent...at this stage I am not able to say what form these measures will take. As for removing the railings on top of the boundary wall at this junction, it would be down to the goodwill of the owners, but I would not discount that as an option should the scheme be permanent."
