West End full of drugs??????????????

Postby robcrack » Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:49 pm

'Drug offences are a staggering 40 times higher in the Carholme Road area than in Bracebridge.'

The above quote is from the ECHO website dated 2/8. I was rather confused by it all as I keep well up to date with what is / isn't going on in the West End and have never noticed a high volume of drug offences.
It would appear that the police station comes under the same beat code as the rest of the West End, therefore any drugs seized from persons in the police station (yes...people do attend the police stn with drugs on board  ) are correctly recorded as DA01 beat code. The problem is that the story didn't mention this therefore perhaps giving rather an inaccurate picture of drug crime in our area.
I have emailed the bosses to ask if the quote can be clarified in the paper - seems fair to me.....................

Well done Rob for exposing another sensationalisation of the facts by a newspaper. Sadly it seems that abusing the freedom of infomation act to obtain trivia sells papers.

They will be telling us ther are a lot of dangerous criminals all living in one big house opposite the hospital next...

I was also disappointed to read last week’s Police statistics published showing that drug offences in the Carholme area were much higher than in any other part of the City. At a recent meeting of the Carholme Community Forum, Police Inspector Dave Legge did explain that the reason for the figures being high was because the Carholme total included drugs discovered at the Police Station on West Parade which is located in the Carholme area. Much the same argument applies to the high level of violent crime shown as occurring in the Carholme Ward. What is often not realised is that the Carholme Ward includes the Brayford area, High Street and Silver Street parts of the City Centre where there are most of Lincoln’s clubs, bars and pubs. Incidents in that part of Lincoln show up in the Carholme Ward figures. From my own experiences both sets of figures are not a reflection of the level of crime in the residential parts of Carholme.

The email I sent to the senior officer in charge of community policing................he agreed and the press officer sent the email to the ECHO who published it the next day. In my view the paper is utter trash. As Lincoln is a rather quiet city the paper have nothing better to do than publish stats in the paper that are usually do not reflect the true story but sadly many folk dont see through it.
