Water pipe rubbing on gas pipe

Postby twofish » Wed Feb 16, 2011 2:50 pm

Hi everyone
There was a water leak in my kitchen and on taking up the boards found the hot water pipes were laid flat on top of each other - and also on the gas pipe. With it being a floating floor I suppose that everytime we walked across the floor it made the pipes rub until there was a hole. The gas pipe is much tougher and is not dangerous but there were signs of wearing. We were lucky to spot the leak. The house was built by Henry Boot and was a "Bloomfield". There are other houses of the same design built by Boots on St George's and plumbed by the same two plumbers.

I have had a plumber in who fixed the leak and put a"bridge in so that the top pipes curve over the other pipes and won't rub on them.

We use our back door a lot so walked over the floor where the pipes are more than most people would in their houses. It just made me wonder how far in the future it will be before others find similar wear. I shall be writing to the NHBC.

We moved in to our Henry Boot house over 9 years ago and every problem we encountered was plumbing related. The majority has since been replaced including ill fitted showers, toilets, bath and radiators.

The biggest problem was the 'bounce' of the floor leading from the dining room to the lounge. When the chipboard floor was cut out the insulation was missing and the floor had been resting on the copper pipes serving the lounge radiator.

One of the main problems was the Site Agent, who at the time struggled to leave his warm Site Office to check what was going on.

Apparently the plumbers were a sub contract father & son team. Ironically one of them actually moved onto the estate.

LET'S JUST HOPE HE HAD AS MANY PROBLEMS TO SORT OUT, JUST LIKE I DID !
