Is that 'just in front of' on Curtis's land i.e. is the water being driven over where the leak starts from or is it running down there? If it's Curtis's land then they are responsible (as we all are for pipes from your land to the main highway), if it's in the road anyone can report the leak.

I notice the leak is getting worse. Must be a classic case of somebody else thinking somebody else has reported it.

I walked past this tonight and was shocked to see such a strong flow as the water runs down to the drain. On closer inspection (obeying the green cross code of course) I realised that the water is actually seeping up through the tarmac near a sizeable crack in the road, presumably caused by a burst main.

At this rate it wont be long before the road starts coming apart.

I just rang Anglian Water who said that the Police first reported to them about a water leak on Long Leys Road way back on 6th May. Nothing became of this as the Police did not indicate how serious the leak was and for them to report back where the leak was sited, etc. So it appears nothing was done under "Long Leys Road."
A local resident from our area rang them yesterday and gave Anglian Water details how bad the leak was becoming.
So they requested details from me and the result is that an engineer/technician will be looking at the situation around 12 noon today, 16th June.
As Steve has already said who is really bothered and takes time to report matters such as this. So with this in mind, I was assured by Anglian Water that the leak would be investigated and dealt with.

News update for Tuesday, 17th June...

Anglian Water did visit Long Leys Road yesterday and found that the water pipe under the road is leaking.
They are going to repair the leak ASAP but first must give notice to both City Council and County Council of their intentions.
They will need to put up signs of 30 mph for approaching traffic. Temporary traffic lights may have to be installed whilst the repair is being completed.
The job reference number is 4276824
The telephone number to use for Anglian Water is 0800 145 145 for road water leaks.

Received a call from Anglian Water this afternoon.
They are not allowed by both councils to deal with the leaking pipe during the day as Long Leys Road is considered a busy road in and out of Lincoln. Such repairs would cause traffic build up, both ways.
So Anglian Water will deal with the leak late one evening and during the night. This will be done by the 30th June.
The member of staff also mentioned that only three persons reported this leak. One was a traffic policeman in May and the other two were one local resident at the weekend and myself.

The leak has got worse and that water is running down the surface water drain much quicker. People thought that the fine and sunny weather would dry up some of the water but has not.
Due to residents saying that this leak should be dealt with urgently I rang Anglian Water once again.
They are still waiting clearance and the go ahead from Highways at County Hall.
Anglian Water said that hopefully the leak will be dealt with by the 30th June.
It goes to show that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing and how much water has been lost and continues to be lost is your guess as well as mine.

Consider this: If the main burst completely, which could well happen, the force of the water would collapse and wash away the road. Flooding into all the houses opposite, which are well below road level.

It would then be considered an emergency and attended to immediately.

Curtis's would then be without water whilst the main was repaired and no doubt with no water under H & S legislation could then be forced to shut their factory.

I wouldn't be surprised if more water has been lost since this leak started than the whole of this estate uses in a month.

No wonder Anglian Water comes in for some stick!!!

Perhaps a pertinent question posed to the Highways Dept' [ if it is indeed this body causing the hold-up ] may cause the situation to be resolved quickly ? I'm sure that they would not like letters of criticism being sent to the press. If nothing else, it would highlight the time we can expect between the reporting of, and the repairing of the leak. I'd guess that there is a 'target' involved in here somewhere... and if the 'yearly target' regarding leaks has already been met... :D :D :D

I was under the impression that Anglian Water, a Statutory Body does not need to serve notice to anyone under Statute Law to carry out Emergency Works. Certainly under The New Roads & Street Works Act Section 57, a recommendation of a minimum of 2 Hours notice was all that is required.

So someone is using that as a weak excuse.

Why not carry the work out at night under floodlights when traffic is at a minimum?

These are the two contact numbers/person who is dealing with the water leak on Long Leys Road.

Emma Brown is the Highways Officer for Lincolnshire County Council - telephone 01522 552222.
Anglian Water - 0800 145 145... Ref No: 4276824

The problem is that Anglian Water is still waiting todate for confirmation from County Council to go ahead allowing the road to be dug up. The water company has to notify nearby residents and businesses that water supplies will be disconnected whilst work progresses, etc. This work can only be completed in the evening/during the night.
The date pencilled for the leak to be repaired is upto 30th June.
The leak has been considered as non urgent despite the amount of water being lost.

So if residents would like to telephone both parties, please do so on 30th June to get this leak repaired.

Surprise, surprise, the hignways officer who is dealing with the water leak was on annual leave last week. From today, 30th June, the officer is off work sick. The boss was not available as he was at a meeting in Manchester/Birmingham.
No one at County Hall could give any information what was happening to Long Leys Road and the problem of the water leak, etc.
Apparently, residents have called again Anglian Water at the weekend of their intentions about its repair.
The replies have been that the repair should be completed late this evening by the water company.
To be or not to be and will it be is the question!
