I have received recently through my letter box a leaflet from someone who has been selected to stand as the Conservative candidate for Lincoln West.
It appears that the Conservatives are using Freepost addresses for local people to join the Conservative Party and provide help in their activities of distributing literature, etc, through letter boxes. Nothing personal about contacting them by telephone or providing home addresses where Conservative candidates live who are standing at the elections.
Councillor Meg Dividson is the Tory candidate the Lincoln West for June's Lincolnshire County Council elections. I asked County Hall for more details about her but they did not know anything about her or who the candidate was standing for the Conservatives. They held nothing.
On this leaflet she is claiming a lot for what the Tories have done for Lincoln. She has said that the Tories want to reverse community decline and will deliver transport improvements such as trafiic congestion for the city.
So why are the Tories have not done this now?
Community centres are closing with more in the pipeline due to no money and of course, if kept opened, sold off for private enterprise to deal with. And of course we still have traffic problems which have not been resolved so far and has been for years on end. Also it just takes one motor accident to bring the city to a standstill.
She has suddenly appeared with her intentions and promises on the Lincoln scene. The local residents' groups have not heard from until now when a leaflet came through residents' letter boxes. She is not active in the area and has not been involved with the community so far.
There are several photographs shown on the leaflet with captions.
1) One picture shows a part of Richmond Road with cars parked on each side and the caption is "car parking challenge: many local streets are choc a block with parked cars." What she has failed to indicate that the cars belong to residents living in that street who have residential parking.
2) Another photograph shows part of the traffic signals and crossing at the top of Long Leys Road with the caption of "one of the new pedestrian crossings installed by Lincolnshire County Council." She claims that the Conservatives deliver transport improvements and this was one of them. What she failed to mention is that it was the West End Residents' Association, working with councillor Robert Parker and County Council officers, that got this juction approved with a grant from the Community Travel Zone This took years for a CTZ grant to be given and the junction was completed some time ago.
3) There is a picture of a sign at the bottom of Carram Way with the caption of "the sign says Utopia, but other promised amenities have failed to materialise on the new housing development at St Georges." She has failed to mention what community facilities are needed for the urban village and that the former SEC site could be used, owned by the Tory controlled Lincolnshire County Council, who wish to sell it for £1m and for further housing development. She claims that we deserve communities not dormitories. So what are the Tory run County Council and City Council going to do about the SEC site? Nothing, so far!
4) There is a photograph of The Corner Shop on West Parade with the caption of "a local corner shop provides an important amenity for residents living in the West End of Lincoln. The owner of the shop did not give his permission for his shop to be photographed that way. He has written a letter to the Lincoln Conservative Party but they have not responded. What she has failed to mention is that a number of shops in the West End (local amenities) have closed down because the County Council (Highways) did not provide parking spaces for customers, and due to this, affected their trade thus closing.
Councillor Meg Davidson claims a lot on her profile, and after investigation, I found that she is a serving councillor for West Lindsey District Council. I have to say too that the councillor does not live in Lincoln West.
In fact, she is a councillor for Fiskerton and is currently living in the village of Nettleham.
So why does she want to be elected to serve Lincoln West as well?
She surley cannot be in both places, attending meetings, and trying to serve both areas at the same time?
A lot of politicians put their party politics first before people.
With councillor Davidson and her slogan of "Caring and campaigning for our community" which community is she putting first? So far, she has not shown herself in Lincoln West or taken an interest or played any part in its community affairs.
We have had paper candidates galore on promises and pledges, if elected. Even when candidates turning up on your doorstep canvassing for votes, so many have come and gone. Others appear only at election times. Then there are those who are standing but live miles away.
Just some thoughts on the matter!
