VULCAN BOMBER IS COMPLETE AND READY TO FLY
08:00 - 25 August 2007
Aviation enthusiasts desperate to see the last airworthy Vulcan bomber fly are now on the cusp of achieving their dream.
All engineering work on Vulcan XH558 has now been completed.
The iconic plane is sitting in its Leicestershire hangar finished and ready for its maiden flight.
But the exact time and date for its first time off the ground since restoration is still widely unknown, with only a handful of people aware of exactly when the Vulcan will first take to the skies.
Such secrecy, with even the Vulcan's closest supporters kept in the dark, is deemed necessary to prevent a public melee.
Organisers fear so many people will want to see the Vulcan fly it could create chaos even miles outside the bomber's base at Bruntingthorpe.
The Cold War aircraft, which flew from RAF Waddington, near Lincoln, has taken two years of engineering work and £6.5m to restore.
