The pleasure of living on a building site!

Postby Michelle Bradford » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:12 pm

I have had a HUGE nail in my tyre. I know I'm not the only one by any stretch of the imagination just by the few people I have mentioned it to!

The nail is definately not 'domestic'. It was actually quite lucky as my tyres were verging on not being road legal anyhow, so inadvertantly it did me a favour, But had that not been the case it would have set me back £180 for nothing!

I'd like to know how many other people who this has happened to? The pleasures of living on a building site I suppose - although nearly 5 years on I hadn't thought I would be!

A builder friend of mine thought it was a nail for holding felt (clought I think? But not being in the trade I'm not sure) on the roof, so I suspect it may be the development on the front. Like I said though it was a blessing in disguise as my tyres were on the way out!

If I see nails when I'm out walking (or screws or red elastic bands from the postman!) I pick 'em up. I've mentioned this before though. If everyone scouted their immediate property we will look so much better when the estate is finally finished and we're in the habit of doing so. Often, it's not your can or your bottle or your nail but especially on a Friday it's not really much of an effort. Doesn't of course get away from the fact that it shouldn't happen but it does and probably always will.

When the roads and footpaths are finally completed to the standard required on St Georges, make sure that the weeds and grasses are cleared too that have grown on them. This had to be done first before Westleys Croft was adopted. These had grown over a period of time and the appearance of them growing everywhere spoilt the look on our small estate. Westbury/Persimmons had them sprayed to get rid of them.
Also I would suggest that the drains are cleared from debri and both roads and footpaths are swept clean too by the developer before adoption ( when ever) is completed.
