The electrical sub station - Granely Close...

Postby john shipton » Sun Aug 01, 2010 12:22 pm

Not many residents are aware that this sub station is tucked away taking the appearance of a single garage. Central Networks was suppose to have adopted the building and the generator inside. Two weeks ago after an telephone enquiry, a local resident found that their records had not been updated, for the nearest sub station shown on their maps for Westleys Croft was sited in Albion Crescent. This has now been rectified. Also is appears not to have been maintained.
A request was given for me to look the building over which I did a couple of weeks ago and to make an assessment about the building.
This is what I found concerning the roof. While to roof tiles remain, the concrete to secure the ridge tiles is crumbling as with the concrete supports. This reminded me of the ridge tiles on houses on Westleys Croft whereby contractors have used to wrong mixture of cement. This was found out after several bouts of bad weather and ridge tiles blown off on roofs all over the estate.
Due to my concern about the sub station, I requested a visit by a building inspector from Central Networks. He came on Friday, 30th July, and after his inspection confirmed my suspicions. He also found too the concrete floor inside is crumbling, a large wasps nest, and rat droppings. He also said that if water leaked onto the generator, a black out for the catchment area would have occurred with a knock on affect. He has taken photographs of the building and is recommending remedial action ASAP.
Good job this was reported!
