Having got to work early due to the fine and sunny weather I thought I would give residents the opportunity to read briefly the current situation regarding the change of leadership of Lincoln City Council before Phinger does.
So here is the link to the Lincolnshire Echo. Of course, folk will have to beg, steal, borrow or buy a copy to read the full story.
But due to a computer error this link was unable to be established. So readers will have to look at this news item, copied and pasted...
LINCOLN'S NEW LEADER 'WILL GET DOWN TO BUSINESS'
08:00 - 08 May 2008
The man who is set to take over control of Lincoln City Council has pledged to get down to business and tackle the big issues facing the city.
Councillor Darren Grice told the Echo that his top priority would be offering first-rate services to the people of the city.
And he pledged to continue with the policies set out by former leader, Councillor Eddie Strengiel, who failed to win the backing of fellow councillors in a vote on Saturday.
Only half of the 18 Tory councillors backed Coun Strengiel to remain as leader.
But Coun Grice insisted that the man he will replace had played a vital role in the party's election victory in the polls last week.
"Eddie has been a fantastic leader and I have been really lucky to work with him," he said.
"My style of leadership is inclusive, laid-back and friendly.
"I don't get flustered, but do not think that the friendly smile does not conceal a set of teeth."
The days following his rise to power have not been without controversy, however.
It took more than 72 hours for the people of Lincoln to be told he would become the new leader.
And the circumstances surrounding his dramatic rise to the top were only made clear after four and a half days.
When Coun Grice was nominated to stand, both he and Coun Strengiel received an equal number of votes.
But, following discussions between Coun Strengiel and the group, he decided to step down as leader.
As he prepares for two years of Tory rule, Coun Grice insisted one of his party's key policies - a pilot for weekly bin collections for all residents - will still go ahead.
Coun Grice will be officially sworn in at a special meeting of the council on Tuesday, May 20.
