ROAD CONDITIONS

Postby SteveW » Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:49 pm

I am concerned and I realise our estate roads have not been adopted, but surely Lincolnshire Highways must have a DUTY OF CARE to at least salt Carram Way, being a frequently used bus route, where I feel, passengers and pedestrians are at risk given the present adverse weather conditions.

Any thoughts?

The council have agreed to consider salt bins. Would residents want them and if so, where do you suggest they are sited?

How about salt bins at the two entrance roads into the estate, for starters......

That would be one by 'the shop' and the other? Don't often exit that way but think it's all private land.
Now for the realism. Say they put one by the shop...or anywhere else, is someone really going to go down there with a shovel? Their offer is only to provide a salt bin but not manpower.

Good morning all,

Due to the recent cold period and bad weather conditions a number of calls have come in regarding the need for gritting containers on Carram Way.

I understand the Carram Way suffers particularly in icy conditions and I have since spoken to a Senior Highways Officer. He informed me precautionary salting routes are agreed in July, ahead of the new winter season and he assures me Carram Way is to be considered as part of the section 38 agreement prior to adoption.

If the Carram Way does get added to the route this would remove the need for the grit bins to be located and the road will be treated as part of the precautionary route.

However, in the mean time the location of current grit bins and requests for new bins are being reviewed at the end of each winter period prior to the new winter season getting underway, subject to the road being adopted.

I'm sure you will all agree that the presence of Persimmons at our recent LLRA AGM was a a positive step forward to get the road adopted as soon as possible.

I hope this updates you all of the current position with regards to the gritting on the estate and I can assure you a decision will be made before next season.

Many thanks,

Councillor Robert Parker
