This may be of interest to residents and those reading the web site...

What a night this would be in listening and dancing to the sounds of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and a host of others, including Frank Sinatra. Those wishing to swing in the mood have to opportunity to do so at 1940s Dance and Big Band Night hosted by the Friends of Metheringham Airfield at the former aerodrome called RAF Metheringham, near Lincoln. This was the wartime home to 106 Squadron.

Come dressed in 1940s style, both military and civi, which is optional, and enjoy the music of this era. Take a trip down memory lane for an evening of nostalgia and entertainment from the famous Ockbrook Big Band from Derbyshire who will be dressed in authentic GI World War Two uniforms. Come young and old and perhaps afterwards visit what remains of the WW2 airfield, especially the runway, for you may hear the Merlin engines of Lancaster bombers that flew from there returning from a mission.

Dancing will commence from 20.00 hours (8.00pm) in the WW2 gymnasium at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre on Saturday, 12th June.

Tickets are £18.00 which includes supper. There will be a licensed bar.

Tickets are available from the Visitor Centre or by sending a cheque payable to The Friends od Metheringham Airfield, together with a stamped addressed envelope to: Christins Means, Watermill Cottages, Kirkby Green, Lincoln, LN4 3PF. For further information telephone 01526 321942.

Dare come and enjoy yourself? An event and an evening not to be missed!
