A few local residents are concerned about their Power Max/Potterton boilers which were installed in houses built by the two main developers when the urban village began to take shape.
One question raised is how long will they last before they need replacing and another quiry was are parts still available if they break down.
It appears that the two companies concerned which made the these boilers have been taken over since installations began from around 2000 by the former housing developers called Westbury Homes and Henry Boot Homes.
Upto early 2008, a company called Heatwise was employing heating engineers/plumbers to deal with central heating, boiler repairs and general plumbing and this included Power Max and Potterton boilers. But only a few residents from our area used this company.
Many of the residents have taken out boiler breakdown cover with companies like British Gas and so forth.
I had a problem this week with the timer that had broken down which operates my Power Max boiler.
A former employee of Power Max and Heatwise, called Ian Mills, who is an heating engineer and plumber ( Corgi registered), was recommended so he was called out to sort out the problem as I was being told from elsewhere that Power Max boilers are not being made and spare parts were hard to come by. I was being given the hard sell treatment of buying a new boiler as Power Max boilers were considered obsolete.
Well, thanks to Ian Mills, he obtained the new part for my boiler, said that I did not need a new boiler, and would maintain and repair my Power Max boiler, as and when.
I ask him about the two questions raised and he said that Power Max boilers were a good make, reliable if serviced properly, and could last about 15 to 20 years. Of course parts may need replacing and parts are still available.
If any one needs an heating engineer, Ian Mills can be contacted on either 01522 869083 or 07813 710281
