Residents are probably aware of letter from Lincoln City Council being attached to posts at the entrances to the West Common.
This is regarding a planning application received from Carholme Golf Club who wish to vacate the three fairways on the northern side of the West Common. They wish to add three fairways to the southern side (behind the Grandstand).
The situation affects the biodiversity, ecology and a host of other things which have not been looked at and considered before.
What folk of the West End have found out is that the golf club has started to alter the southern side without permission and have ignored the conditions laid down by the Commons Advisory Committee at City Hall.
The West Common Friends have organised a meeting at the Grandstand on Wednesday, 7th May, at 7.00pm.
This is to discuss the Planning Application by the Carholme Golf Club.
Lincoln City Council has had to issue an Environmental Impact Report to be completed by the golf club and themselves before anything else happens.
The West Common is considered as a critical natural assett for the city of Lincoln. It appears that the golf club committee has authorised changes to the golf course without consultation before people have got to know about them. Their current action without planning permission has damaged the wild life using the southern side of the West Common. Also trees have been cut down together with grassland/meadow which have disappeared making way for something else.
The Commons Warden has been called in the assess the situation and to look at the conditions which the golf club has broken as laid down in their lease (the golf club is a private company) and the conditions which the Commons Advisory Committee agreed to at their last meeting with the golf club present.
