Parking on St Georges

Postby murphy » Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:20 pm

Residents of St Georges Park, please consider pedestrians when parking vehicles on the estate. Vehicles should be parked on the road, in a parking space or in your own driveway. The pavements are for pedestrians and I observed many parents having to push buggies on to the road as there is no room to walk on the pavements. Heaven help disabled/wheelchair/blind pedestrians who choose to visit, or live on the estate. Should they have to use the road, rather than the pavement also?

Yes Murphy, indeed. This goes hand in hand with the 'double yellows' thread.

To add insult to injury, we now have a huge articulated lorry whose driver thinks it perfectly okay to park at the end of Mercer Drive, tyres in the grass verge and right across the pavement! What is the matter with these people?

do NOT accept that. Take registration and company and complain to them especially if it's ruined the verge. If it's connected with the hospital let me know, but I'll contact people either way if you like.

Ref the HGV parking..... It should be running in conjunction with an Operators Licence and it may well stipulate within the licence where the vehicle is allowed to be stored outside working hours! Worth knowing if you are complaining to the company as the transport manager won't want the complaint reaching the Ministry of Transport.

Thanks for advice. The lorry is parked quite regularly at the end of Mercer Drive so next time I will indeed make a note of the phone number and call with details.

Parking along the left hand side of Carram Way opposite the Hospital grounds is often chaotic, and leaves drivers unsighted at a difficult junction. This does not seem to be residents in the main, but hospital employees using the road as an overflow car park.
Has anyone asked what it's going to be like when the new unit opens, and have adequate provisions been made for additional staff, visitors etc. within the hospital grounds?

there has been a problem with construction workers building the new complex. they are parking their vehicles everywhere saying to residents that they can park anywhere where there are no parking restrictions. they are parking on albion crescent. they are parking on st georges. they are parking in one of the bays off long leys road where the bin lorry could not drive down. despite the nhs advising the construction firm about these problems the workers have ignored the advise. this will go on until the work is completed which will be next year? the problem of parking in the official hospital car park is causing problems for nhs staff. there are restrictions so staff are parking on st georges. it's up to residents themselves to sort this all out with the nhs management there. perhaps the llra could be involved? i rang one of the pcsos about the parking problems. the police are waiting for complaints from the public to make it a priority. i am not getting involved. i thought i would pass this on. its up to residents what they do next.

I met PCSO Peter Davies in the West End last Monday. He spoke to me about the parking problems at the junction of Mitchell Drive and Carram Way. Unless residents give details, times, and a number of vehicles involved, the police will not monitor the situation. No one had contacted the police giving details, etc.
About the parking problems caused by the construction workers and nhs workers, the resolution lies with Costain Construction and the NHS hospital. It is upto residents to approach them about it, because as as far as the police are concerned, no one is breaking the law regarding parking on the roads (on part of the footpaths perhaps?).
The question raised by St Georges residents is when will the roads and footpaths be adopted? Perhaps someone gave provide details because I have no further information about it!
By the way, the secure unit should be completed by October 2011.

The parking of construction workers or hospital staff cars is a frustrating. As is the speed at which hospital staff drive down what might as well be one way streets with little regard for what may step out into the road or come out of a junction because you just can't see due to more parked cars.

Admittedly, all I have done about this so far is complain privately.... and here.

Why don't residents do something about it. I have complained but I am one of a few. It will get worse in the summer holidays so do something about it. Notice that lorries are now parking at the top of Mitchell Drive awaiting to go on site.

Hi, I can confirm that someone has mentioned it, and a job has been raised to make the police aware

re. hospital parking. yes there is reduced parking at the moment. the build is in week 38 of 62 (but likely to finish early) so apart from the illegal parkers we need to be patient. there is a one way system in place so that lorries are not clattering around the st.georges estate which may explain why they are holed up waiting elsewhere. once the build has finished there will be plenty of parking for all hospital visitors and workers so we can, if necessary, go back to having a go at folk who visit but park on carram and reduce visibility for other road users. This will always be a difficult one and people who want to abuse the pleas to get off the road and use designated spaces will doubtless continue to do so. Unfortuantley they are legally, if not morally, allowed to do so.

I hope there will be enough parking space in the new hospital ,because already 35 new jobs have been advertised re ward staff for the new unit, this does not include new ancillary staff(porters, cleaners, security, kitchen staff, cafe staff), Doctors,Therapists and all the administration staff that the top floor is for. This is on top of all the staff presently there at Gervas house, and all the present ward staff.
