'OPEN GARDENS' this Sunday 8 July

Postby deb » Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:58 am

I visited all 11 gardens on Friday and not one resembles another so plenty of ideas and inspiration to be had. Take an hour or so out on Sunday and visit not only them but some wonderful artwork that will be on display. The choice of starting points for tickets and route (44 Manrico and 2 Berilldon) will have refreshments and home made cake to enjoy and relax in the gardens with, so you’ll find either one on your route or go back to the beginning! 50p per person to see all the gardens. We hope to raise cash to buy bulbs to brighten up our UV so we look forward to seeing a lot of you anytime between 11am and 3pm! DIARY IT, the weather is going to get better!!

Great! I know Barbara has been busy getting her art exhibition ready as well as the garden. I'm looking forward to it!

Really enjoyed both looking at the many varied gardens and having people to look at mine. Thanks to Denise and Deborah (and whoever worked behind the scenes) to make it an enjoyable day. I don't want to detract from how worthwhile I found this - but I was disappointed in the support it received!

Thanks for your comments! We made just under £14.50 so just under 30 people doing the rounds. Fortunately it was a lovely day for sitting out and waiting for folk and the people that did visit were lovely but of course we know the recent stats tell us that 77% of people that count themselves as happy are regular gardeners! I am confident that we achieved the point which was giving inspiration and showing what grows well in clay and that slopey and odd shaped gardens can actually be a plus point! One group took so long to study and enjoy the gardens that they went home for lunch and came back out again to finish the rest off! Thanks to anyone that came round - that money should buy quite a number of croci (?!!) or mini daffs to brighten some of our UV areas!

First thing first: hats off to the organisers, and the other garden owners. Good job well done.

I don't consider myself an even slightly keen gardner, but was sufficiently intrigued to take a stroll round the other open gardens, and see what had been done with the sloping plots.

Not only was I impressed with the skill and hard work that had obviously gone into making and maintaining them, but I was genuinely taken aback by the unexpected variety and sheer creativity evident in the gardens on display. One or two looked like Mr Titchmarsh had paid a visit.

For those of you who didn't take the gardens tour - which, lets face it, is the vast majority - you missed a great opportunity. Maybe next year?

Regards
