neighbourhood watch alert

Postby Neville » Fri Oct 29, 2010 9:38 am

a report has been received about two men shining torches into properties on harricot close on st georges estate. this took place on wednesday evening.
residents of one house telephoned the police after seeing them in their back garden shining their torches trying to look through the back windows.
the police responded later but these men had absconded. however it appears that these men are known to the police. they are not doing anything about it as no crime has been committed.
also, at the weekend on the wetsleys croft estate a couple of men have been seen looking over various houses after dark and then knocking on front doors. no one came to the doors to answer the calls. dogs walkers coming from the west common found this suspicious as their van was parked off one of the sidings on long leys road. they did not report this to the police or give any description of the men and van to anyone else. only what they saw.
perhaps the police beat manager officer for carholme road and the psco have further details on the incident which happened on st georges. they provide information on the st georges web site by their alerts for the west end of lincoln.

This has now become a problem all over Lincoln. With the cuts in public expenditure the police will have no time for such activity with people being allowed to do as they please. Many of the housing estates throughout Lincoln are facing similar problems. ASBO's have become trophies while people of whatever class or origin can cause havoc with their behaviour on estates with little interferance from the police.
Perhaps the Long Leys Road area does not exist in the eyes of the law, hence not seeing anyone walking the beat over here. For the police to say that they are not following this up due to no crime being committed indicates why people don't bother anymore reporting anything suspicious. For it takes someone to be murdered or killed before the police are involved. I have lived with this since people began to disrespect and take the law into their own hands showing contempt for the rest of us. I have had my say and end by saying "watch out there are thieves about" but don't rely on a police presence as a deterrent, because there is'nt any!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Neville, people saw these men knocking on doors, no one answering and they knew the parked van belonged to these people. Presumably they watched for a reasonable time since we are talking more than one door. What did they do with no answer that seemed suspicious and how did they know the van belonged to these people. How many people were knocking? These walkers seemed to know quite a bit and have spoken to you but to no one else. If the police are not told they can build nothing up. If people see stuff then post here why it's suspicious and who or what we should be looking out for.
Going into someones garden which presumably involved climbing over the fence and then shining torches through the back window, then it's trespass. Why not take a photo from the upstairs window then open the window and shout. It's not a quick thing for them to climb back over a 6 foot fence. Maybe there'll be a good enough pic to warn everyone.
Thanks for the notes, we need to look out for each other.

I think I need to clarify a few things!

On the evening of Wednesday 27th Oct there was an incident where 2 males were seen acting suspiciously around St Georges estate. Police attended promtly and stopped 2 males nearby who were searched with a negative result, all details were taken and the males were allowed to go on their way as we had no power to detain them further. No offences were found at the time and no crime has been subsequently recorded. This information has been put through the usual channels and will be picked up by the Intelligence Unit who will develop any further intellignce. The Neigbourhood Policing Team is clearly aware of the incident and the area is actually on late night tasking where Response Officers patrol the area due to incidents at the allotments.

I really feel Nev, that saying that "the police are doing nothing" is incorrect and in some respects adds to the fear of becoming a victim of crime.

I have also noted the message from Jeff. I feel quite disheartened by what has been written as this area is part of my beat area and I know that I spend a lot of time on the area, as does the other 2 members of the team. I really think, again, that what has been written gives an unrealistic view of crime in the St Georges area and as such can increase the fear of becoming a victim of crime.

Deb, your absolutely right, if we don't know we can't do anything about it. Please encourage as many people as possible to report things to the police, by all working together and looking out for one another, we make it much more difficult for criminals to commit crime in the first place.

Stats for the beat area show that overall crime has decreased by 17.8% in comparison to the same time last year and in particular burglary is down by 3% in comparision to last year.

If anyone wants to speak more about what the local police team are doing in the area or want to speak to me about any other issues then please contact me.
