Merlins over Malta...

For those interested...

Flight Lieutenant Charlie Brown still serves in the Royal Air Force as a flying instructor based at RAF Cranwell. He is versatile with so many aircraft that he is well known on the aviation circuit either flying warbirds or giving talks about his flying experience.

When not at Cranwell, he spends his time at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, with the Historic Aircraft Collection which have a collection of vintage aircraft kept in mint condition and fly from this airfield. These piston aircraft include the Spitfire, the Hurricane, and a Hawker Nimrod 11. Charlie has been with the HAC for 13 years so knows his aircraft quite well.

He is famous for flying Spitfires but his expertise goes beyond the United Kingdom for he has flown a Russian Yak 3 and a Russian Spitfire.

Because of his committment in keeping veteran aircraft in the air, and likes to talk about aircraft, he has now holds an Honary Life membership with the East Staffs Flying Club.

In 2003, there began a project called "Merlins Over Malta" an initiative which has been fulfilled. To hear about his involvement, this will be his topic for the next lecture to be held in the WW2 gymnasium at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre.

To find out more about this talk, aviation enthusiasts will have to come to former RAF Metheringham on Wednesday, 23rd September, and be there before the lecture begins at 7.30pm.

Admission for visitors is £4.00 which includes refreshments. It is free for members of the Friends of Metheringham Airfield and 106 Squadron.
