Lost dogs and strays...

Postby john shipton » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:18 am

My daughter and her boyfriend had a dog sitting on their doorstep bedraggled, lost and wanting help.
It was a friendly Jack Russell and liked attention.
Who could not have taken it in for the night!
But before they gave the dog bed and breakfast, Nigel went for a walk to find out if someone had a dog gone missing.
First, he went onto the West Common. No one around!
Then he walked around the small estate, on Albion Crescent, the footpath, and then up and down Long Leys Road. Most curtains were drawn and not a person in sight walking the streets.
He came back tired and exhausted. But he and Becky had a dog who was loving, liked to be fussed over and was well behaved.
He rang the police but they don't deal with lost dogs anymore.
The police at Nettleham HQ gave him the city of Lincoln dog warden's telephone number instead. The dog warden was not available over the weekend to sort out the situation. So he was given a dog kennels telephone number in Ingham to ring who take in strays and lost dogs. They took his call last night and would contact him this morning. No call was received before he went to work.
So (Becky's) dad took control of the matter this morning and rang West Parade Police Station to confirm that the police no longer deal with doggie matters. Yes, this is correct and Lincoln City Council's dog warden is now responsible. But not at weekends or out of hours. So I was given the kennels telephone number instead. But they had left their answering telephone services on and would get back to me ASAP.
Frustrated and wishing to give up? Not me! And who wanted another dog to look after and take for walks? Not me, as I had already two dogs owned by my daughter in doing do such matters!
Anyway two's company and another dog making three, would make a crowd!
But good news came my way during the course of the morning. Because I had given out my telephone number to the police, the dog warden and the kennels, the owner of the lost dog rang me after contacting West Parade Police Station.
The owner lived in the Newport area of Lincoln and lost the dog on Hewson Road Friday evening. The dog had slipped it collar and the family looked for their dog all over the West End until 3am Saturday morning.
The good news is that the dog was reunited with the family Saturday afternoon.
The other good news is that Becky received a bunch of flowers for looking after the dog and Nigel received a special painting, painted by one of their sons who is studying art at Lincoln College.
So for lost dogs and strays these are the telephone numbers to use...
West Parade Police Station - 01522 882222
The Dog Warden for Lincoln City Council - 01522 534747
Ingham Kennels who take in lost dogs and strays for Lincoln - 01522 730502
Stand by for action - anything can happen in the next half hour!
