For the 3rd time in the last 5 years the workmen have returned digging up our paths but this time they have tried a different approach..

No not to get it right this time, just to p**s off the residents by not giving any warning notices, blocking drives and working in the dark, which is totally against any Street Works Act or Health & Safety legislation.

The whole estate looks like a bomb site and is totally unacceptable.

Time the LLRA took some action and demanded some answers and a little more respect by the contractors to the residents and road users.

I was walking my dog on Long Leys Road yesterday evening and saw flashing orange lights on this road and at the bottom of Carram Way. I went to see what was going on in the dark. Workman were laying down a new footpath in the area. I asked them about them doing the rest of St Georges Park and one said it would take a few more weeks. I took my dog around Carram Way and found chunks of tarmac removed in many places. I don't know the reasons why as the rest of the tarmac surrounding them looked OK and sound.
The workman said that this is what they were being paid for. Any further explanations and why are not the residents of Carram Way giving explanations or complaining? Perhaps they are not that bothered what goes on around them? A community spirit? Not much going on!!!! One resident with her dog from the estate was not that concerned too as it had nothing to do with her!!!!!!!

I was told 6 weeks depending on weather. We have waited an age for adoption. The council will decide if the work is good enough to adopt. If vehicles are blocking drives tell 'em, doesn't need the LLRA!!!

Sorry Steve, bit abrupt. Thing is, where I live there is no trouble so I, for one, would not know that there was trouble elsewhere unless people say. This is the first mention of annoyance. What would be helpful, for anyone that maybe wants some intervention, is to say what it is exactly that you want doing.
Obviously it is too late for notices though since we are not adopted that was unlikely to happen anyway.
Working in the dark, was there a reason that day or if it happens again, say when so we can go to them with the grievance and why it's not acceptable e.g. are they working in an unlit area? too close to a bend? in the bus stop? after 6pm? whatever it is that we are complaining about.
Estate like a bombsite, is there something that can be done about that while they are working?
Blocking driveways - yes, tell them unless they are blocking driveways by parking up overnight so that the vehicles cannot be moved. That is totally unacceptable and, as you say, plain disrespectful from anyone.

I know it's easy to criticise local councils, especially with the cutbacks they're all going to have to make in the next few years.

However, Lincolnshire County Council has somehow, very generously, found the money to resurface the footpath outside my house.

It's taken three or, sometimes, four workmen all week, but it's starting to look very nice.

My only concern is it was perfectly fine beforehand, so why did they bother?

Well Paul obviously doesn't use this site or he'd know the Council weren't paying. However, I know what he means. I've seen some markings and have no idea what they point to or what's wrong!

Let me enlighten you !!!

Before any roads/ footpaths are adopted by the local council they need to reach a certain standard, depth & quality of hardcore, correct depth of tarmac base course, correct depth of wearing course, kerbs aligned, kerbs and path edgings not damaged etc etc etc. Water meters fixed in place properly etc. All the resposibility of the developer.

The contractors working on behalf of David Wilson/Henry Boot will need to get the work passed and accepted by the Council before it is signed off and handed over as acceptable.

That is why we have a right to moan/complain, this is the third attempt in the last five years to try and achieve an acceptable standard. So something isn't right if they need to keep returning.

Just as well someone in authority is checking their workmanship.

yes, I know there's a lot involved in the process but for a lay person it's still difficult to see what's wrong. But of course that doesn't matter and as you say, those that know what they are talking about check these things over. I just hope it's all done because there are still yellow dots on Westbury's that have never been fixed or faded away.

One thing I will chase Steve is all the mud. If they leave and no road cleaner is sent around I shall be straight on to Wilson's. Once the Manrico green is finished with for dumping and parking diggers the landscaping can be completed. My contact at the council will let me know when she can squeeze a date out of them. Then it's a year and if all's well then official adoption.
