Well John would have asked but the police reps had to leave before the community policing part of the agenda!
Some policing issues were mentioned but when the minutes are out I will post anything relevant to our area.

I'm sure I must have missed out on a communication somewhere but does anyone know when the lights will be switched on?

As it happens I chased that again this morning! The electricity vans were up the top a couple of weeks ago for a couple of days but not seen them since and no switch on. Would be useful to have lights for late night shopping and the Christmas Market!

The night is drawing in pretty fast now and getting darker every minute in the late afternoon.
I wonder if switching on these lights can become an urgent matter and be resolved sooner rather than later?
Or can we persuade the mayor to have a celebration in switching on the lights as with the Christmas lights switch-on in the city centre - we could too have a firework display with all of the trimmings?
Watch out the the cow jumping over the moon in the process!!

I have been aware of the problems with the lighting of the steps since Wednesday and I have spoken with the Senior County Council Officer responsible for this project. He tells me there have been complications in completing the street lighting due to errors in records of the existing system to which we need to connect. The County Council therefore needs to obtain more acurate information from the developers before we can proceed. Every effort is being made to resolve this issue, as soon as I have further information I will publish it on this website.

The electricity van was back this morning and the lights can now be seen to be working. Hurrah, just the bench and bin and that project can be signed off. I assume the non-slip stuff is on but don't know how you can tell....

Thanks for councillor Rob Parker for sorting out the Higson Road steps.
So what is next on the agenda?

There is outstanding the road sign warning motorists that they are driving beyond the 30 mph speed limit on Long Leys Road which was agreed to under the community grants scheme run by County Council one of which has now been completed for the Higson Road steps.
There is what is happening to the former SEC site which remains dormant and derelict. A few residents have been told like myself that next year, 2009, Lincolnshire County Council is likely to put up the site for sale to the highest bidder and to force Lincoln City Council to consider a change of use. The reason for this is because there has been little progress between County and City councils on issues involved.
There is a Carol Service to be arranged for Christmas 2008.

Any updates which residents have been asking?

TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED

After such a great effort by a number of residents on the estate to make the steps so much more presentable, amongst us is a second class vandal.the destruction by cutting down wire fences to take (what appears to be a dog) for a walk in the field on the left going up is a criminal act of trespass by causing damage to gain access and shear stupidity. We have horses loose in their now and access up between the wire and handrail will let them out on to Higson Rd with very dangerous results. The person who is did this act will be held fully responsible for the outcome .The authorities have been notified and any help in passing on the culprit details would be greatfully appreciated. We don't want any accidents and injuries and are so greatful for the fence that was replaced.

Tony:

Having walked down the steps last week one of the supporting posts proping up the post with barb wire has been kicked away and was laying on the ground nearby. It is the corner post facing the old former air raid shelter on which has the seat fixed on top.
Notice too how the wire has been cut and twisted neatly by the culprit concerned around the middle of the steps. This is believed to have been done by a local dog walker to use the path going west.

It is sad to hear that the Steps have again been vandalised. I have arranged for the Project Manager to take a look and repair where necessary. I have asked him to do this as soon as possible.

Now finished. The whole length is now slip resistant black with pale slip resistant edging to the steps. I noticed also that it was strimmed the other day though don't know if this was the council/Wilson's/ a resident.
