I would suggest that local residents get a copy of today's Lincolnshire Echo (29th November).
It involves them and the future of the city of Lincoln. One important aspect which is welcomed is the decision under the title that "Green Wedges to be preserved."
There can be no more excuses from residents that they cannot be bothered as it does not affect them. IT WILL AFFECT THEM if they like it or not.
So get involved or pay the consequences later (my emphasis)...
CITY BYPASSES 'NOT NEEDED', SAY PLANNERS

Lincoln's bypass schemes have been derailed and may now never happen.
Planning inspectors have rejected claims that the city desperately needs new roads - throwing Lincoln's future into chaos.
They have dismissed arguments for the eastern - and by association the southern - bypass roads.
Lincoln, they say, should only get more roads "when all other measures have been exhausted", including park-and-ride schemes and bus services.
The inspectors have also dramatically rejected the Swanpool development, saying it is a flood risk.
The scheme for a 4,500-home 'urban village' with offices on the land, off Skellingthorpe Road, could have been lost.
Inspectors say that 70 per cent of the site is in a flood plain and should remain undeveloped.
The report, which sets Lincolnshire planning agenda for the next 20 years, is a bitter blow to the county's councils.
They have been relying on both the bypasses and Swanpool to deliver the future growth of the city.

Rejection of the Swanpool project is a victory for common sense but there is a need to stop the development of flats without adequate parking or roads to carry them. Park & ride schemes are a joke as is Lincolns addiction to cycle paths. The Eastern By-Pass is essential and should proceed.

Do these people actually have a real appreciation for the traffic problems in Lincoln? They can't be local or they would know that without the Eastern/Southern bypass the City is going to choke. It's all very well saying that all other measures have to be exhausted but there has been no attempt to instigate any of these other measures. I'm happy with the rejection of the Swanpool development-it's plain common sense, but other planning applications for housing have to be viewed in the context of our current infrastructure. They can't keep allowing more houses thus more people & more cars.

Complete and utter morons! This crass ignorance beggars belief! Please can we meet these people at a city meeting to try to tslk sense into them! About a month ago I was driving my wife and newborn baby back from Lincoln County Hospital. There had been a lorry fire on the bypass and hence traffic was backed up all the way along Bunkers Hill, Outer Circle Drive and Greetwell Road and Allenby/Monks Roads. To get to our home I would usually turn left onto Outer Circle Drive and then right onto Carlton Boulevard but decided to continue East on Greetwell Road becasue of the traffic and then head up the small track which leads into the back of the new Bunkers Hill developments. As we got into the new housing developments we were met with a lot of frustrated drivers hurtling through the opposite way one of whom T boned us from the left at a T junction. Thankfully we were all ok by for my wife and one day old son (on that side of the car) it could have been so much worse!!! Now tell me we don't need an Eastern/Southern Bypass...

What an absolute joke. I guess the planning inspectors don't have to negotiate the bottle-neck that is Lincoln everyday! One accident and the city grinds to a halt! Build the bypass then put a park and ride on it! It's not rocket science!

Which bloody planet are these people living on, saying we don't need bypasses! Have they ever tried to get from one end of town to the other at certain times of the day (early mornings from around 8.00am and from around 4.30pm). I do agree that there is a lot as everyone is trying to get to work and leaving work roughly around the same times. Unfortunately we have to travel through town as there isn't no eastern bypass. Travelling at these sort of times can take up to nearly 3/4 hour just to get through town. If there was one accident, it would take even longer through the congestion and most of Lincoln tends to come to a standstill just from one accident somewhere. This is why we need bypasses, I suggest these planners live here in the canwick area or north hykeham area and see how much we need these new roads.

Swanpool and By Passes rejected by planners - Park and Ride and improved public transport welcomed: sense at last ... but what a pity we had to waste so much public money getting to this point.

I suppose another myth that 'traffic will only increase to fill the new roadspace' will have been trotted out too. The traffic explosion in this country has happened already; more vehicles than we can handle and most parked up most of the time. So if this is an excuse and it usually is, it's wrong headed.
