Group Captain Terry Holloway retired from the Royal Air Force in 1995 having become a logistics specialist. He has flown a large number of civilian and RAF aircraft although he never trained as one of their pilots during his career.
However, he gained his Private Pilot's Licence in 1963 whilst serving as a member of the Luton Flying Club having started in the Royal Air Force joining as an apprentice at RAF Halton in 1962.
Terry's amazing career and interest in gliding began to take root with the Air Training Corps from 1959 whereby he first went sola in 1961 flying a T31 glider.
Over the years he has gained a keen eye for detail in aviation which has led him to become an expert and historian and uses his expertise by regularly giving lectures and talks on a wide range of aviation linked topics ranging from gliding to space travel. Due to this, he is in demand on the aviation circuit all over the UK and has made numerous appearances on TV as well as radio broadcasts.
Today, he is emplyed as the Group Support Executive at the Marshall Group of Companies based in Cambridge having has its own airfield employing around 4,000 people. Marshall's was involved with the restoration of Vulcan XH558 which first flew publically at the RAF Waddington Air Show last July. The company has a turnover of £650 million.
Terry developed considerable expertise in mountain gliding in the Alps and led the first RAF gliding expedition which flew over the Andes from Chile into Argentina in 1995 - a record breaking flight! This will be part of his topic at the last aviation lecture for 2008 to be held at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre on Wednesday, 26th November, beginning at 7.30pm.
