Chris Marsh, the footpaths officer at County Council had a chat with me today regarding the footpath.
He is aware that there are four springs bubbling up between Long Leys Road and Mercer Drive. Also a number of wet patches and puddles.
He has recommended that compressed gravel stone be put down upon the sand all along the footpath. He said hopefully this will cure the problems. But before doing so, he will have a word with the contractor.
This will be done within the near future.
If anymore problems arise after this work is completed, I would suggest that residents ring him direct at Lincolnshire County Council on 01522 782070.

What the hell is compressed gravel stone?

I've been in construction for 35 years and that's a new one on me.

It must be a local thing like asking for 'scrumps' in the Lincoln chip shops!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway I supposed the good old rate payer will bare the brunt of this cock up by the good old unaccountable council.

Following complaints from local residents about the quality of the resurfacing of the Albion Crescent footpath I have made representations to the County Council highways department. I have been told that the local Lincolnshire limestone used in the work was not suitable for use on a footpath. The way that the limestone responded to rain and use in the way that it has done was not expected.

To rectify the situation it has been agreed that the contractor will return and lay a further layer of Breedon Gravel. This is Derbyshire stone and should present an informal surface, but one remaining hard in all weather conditions and not leaching colour onto shoes/wheels.

It is likely to be a couple of weeks before the contractor returns but when the work is done it is expected that there will be a big improvement to the footpath surface.

If there are anymore problems contact me on 880848 or cllrr.parker@lincolnshire.gov.uk

Chris Marsh, the footpaths officer for Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, spoke to me today regarding an update on this footpath.
He and a staff member of Lincs Laboratory on the 7th April made a site visit.
The advice given from Lincs Lab is not to go ahead with the laying of single gravel upon the sand, etc, on the footpath.
It appears that what has been laid already on the footpath is settling down so County Hall is leaving it for at least a season.
This will allow the the materials used to bed down over the summer period.
County Hall will look again at the footpath later on this year, around autumn time.
Chris did mention that he had sent an e-mail to Linda Fry, who is Rob Parker's PA, informing the councillor about the situation.

Quite a few people complained to me about the new surface of the path from Long Leys Rd to Albion Crescent just after it was laid, as it was being trodden all over the road.
Having been told by the County Council that the surface used was one that had been successfully used before, they came to inspect and decided it was not an acceptable finish. I was advised that they would instruct contractors to put down a new surface, and I put a note to this effect in my last newsletter to the estate.
Now they are telling me that the path surface is hardening, and that they have been advised by Lincs Laboratory to let it 'bed in' over the summer and have a look at it again later in the year. They will then take a decision whether to leave it as it is, or to resurface. I have to say I am amazed they used something so powdery in the first place.
