LINCOLN’S FIRST FETE ON THE STRAIT
A new Traders’ Association in Lincoln is working hard to make Saturday 27th August a day to remember for both young and old. Businesses in the historic Strait area have joined forces to organise a day of fun for all the family. There will be a mixture of traditional entertainment, music, craft stalls and, as The Strait is known for its cafes and restaurants, lots of food.
The Strait is the area that runs from the top of the High Street to the bottom of Steep Hill, an area full of quirky and individual shops, many in listed buildings. "Were very much a community here" says Dan Pounds, Chairman of the association, "and we wanted to organise something that would reflect that. Lincoln is a great place to bring your family so what could be better than a family day?"
The association, which calls itself BOTH (Bottom of the Hill) was formed to publicise the area and to make it even more attractive to shoppers. Dan explains "everyone knows the High Street, and everyone knows the historic Bailgate area, but the bit in between, us and Steep Hill, sometimes seem to get forgotten about".
The association has already had one success: With the help of Lincoln BIG a disused building has now had its unsightly boarded up frontage transformed with a bright, informative interactive map of Lincoln which is already encouraging visitors to the city to stop and look at what’s around them.
As soon as word got out that the fete was being planned people were phoning from around the county and further afield asking to book stalls. So, whether you’re planning a day’s shopping in Lincoln or a visit to the Cathedral or Cultural Quarter on 27th August, don’t forget to visit the Fete on the Strait.
