dog mess

Postby emmagary » Thu Sep 11, 2008 11:20 am

 Hi all, i know that this was a topic a while ago but I am so annoyed. Yesterday I came home from work to find dog mess on the stones outside our house literally on our property and on the stones that we put down and maintain. This morning there was so much dog mess on the grass outside the houses that go down Manrico Drive that it really was disgusting. Why can dog owners not pick up the mess after their dogs!! I was wondering if something could be put in the next newsletter because not only is it unfair to us who do not own dogs have to clear it up but it really does look dreadful when people come into the area.

There is absolutely no reason why a plea cannot be put in The Newsletter. I suspect that the people that allow this to happen though don't give much of a damn. I think on the spot fines should be given to any dog walker not carrying the means to clear up after the dog in their charge. I know it wouldn't help because anyone can stick a bag in their pocket and never use it but at least it wouldn't be necessary to 'catch' them offending! It's not that the owners haven't noticed, afterall they should be on leads on the street not only for their own safety but for the acknowledgement that some people are afreaid of dogs, but you can see the places where they have pretended not to do so because the pooh runs in dots down the street as the dogs have been dragged along! The next time I see the VIP lady (the firm walks a number of dogs in the area) I will ask her what their policy is - i.e. do they supply bags or do they expect the owners to and are their employees told that without exception they must clear up after their charges.

Hi all. Can I also register my annoyance about dog mess. We live on a corner plot on Carram way, and twice now in the last week, my husband has had to clean up large piles of dog mess. The first was actually in the middle of our drive...the second on our lawn just under our kitchen window. This, as you all have pointed out, is annoying. I cannot understand how these people seem to have a total disrespect for other people's property especially as I have a young child. I do have an idea which dog it might be as I have seen a large dog wandering off a lead, (which incidently I also feel is not safe where small children are)...with its owner wandering aimlessly behind it, but until I do know for sure, I will not point any fingers. For the dog to have done its business on our lawn, underneath our kitchen window, it cannot have been on a lead for sure.

If I do find out which dog it is, can anyone tell me if there is any action I can take. I will make sure that I get a photo of the culprit as I am keeping my digital camera at the ready, as I feel so angry about this. This has only happened during the couple of weeks and I think it is so unfair. Prior to this, we have had no problems with dog fouling.

You could ask the local PCSO Simon King, simon.king@lincs.pnn.police.uk 07900221847, he should know a man who knows though I don't think they themselves are allowed to do anything. There are these posters for fines but has anybody ever been fined. Think of the council or even police cash shortfalls, pick up a number of those a week and it'd help at £100 a time or whatever!

I would suggest if the culprit or culprits are known to be doing this then contact the dog warden at Lincoln City Council. Give details of the dog owners concerned, name and address as so forth. The dog warden will write a letter to them giving them a warning. The informer does not have to give their name.
If the dog owner persists in allowing their dog to foul and residents are reporting this, after a couple of warning letters sent, the culprit will be prosecuted.
Warning letters have done the trick in other parts of Lincoln in stopping offenders allowing their dogs to pooh on public footpaths and on lawns.
It is not the dog's fault!

Dirty sods, makes you wonder what the insides of their houses must be like?

In answer to Amanda's question, I reckon you can at least kick them up the arse, unfortunately I don't know what you can do to the dogs!!

Hi All. Thanks for your help on this. I am at my wits end. My 3 year old daughter was out playing while her dad was working on our drive today, and dropped one of her toys on the grass. She picked it up, and it had fallen into yet another pile of dog poop on our lawn. She instantly wiped her hands all down her clothes. Her dad went to her aid and also ended up with dog poop on his hands. This is disgusting and needs stopping. There is a dog poop bin on the corner of our road. I really don't understand how these people can let their animals do this and simply walk away. Don't these people know how dangerous dog poop is to kids and it sounds like there is very little we can do to stop it.

Does anyone know if we are able to erect metal railings around our properties. I am aware that it is an open plan estate, but we can't see any other way around protecting our property. We have looked at our deeds and cannot find anything which states we could not erect these. We live in a ex Westbury home.

When we moved into our property 6 or so years ago i remember several things you were not allowed to do which included such things like parking large commercial vehicles outside your house and erecting external aerials.

Both now appear to be ignored, so in answer to your question I don't see that a low fence or maybe a low prickly hedge should offend anyone. Try it, the worse thing that can happen is the powers that be (whoever they are) could ask you to remove it.

Your argument being; that after all your protective measures are less offensive than what you are having to put up with.

I think the practical approach is the way forward here. A small low fence or hedge is ideal as it physically stops the problem, and reinforces your boundary.Traditionally many of the restrictive covenants that restrict " For sale" signs, vans, and fences etc expire when the last house is sold by the developer. It is worth researching, in any case it would take a complaint for something to be said about it.
If someone dropped their wallet on your lawn and you knew where they lived then it would be appropriate to return it,in fact you may well be obliged to do so ( or at least take it to the police). I am fairly sure that the Police aren't that keen on bags of pooh so returning it is your only option..

Seriously though the dog warden is the person to let know ...

95% of the problem must be caused by local people as i never see anybody coming down the steps then going back up say 1/2 hour later with a dog .so unless they walk from the west end then back they are from around here .
may i suggest the llra ask the local councillors for a donation out of there kitty for two notice boards for are village . then the people and dogs responsible can be named and shamed --------also does the dog warden have some more stickers or signs that can go up

Not too long ago my wife and I were walking our dog on the common and bumped into a guy with a chocolate lab called Pudding. He seemed like a nice guy but when his dog left a package on the footpath he just walked away. We did ask if he was going to pick up, even offered a bag, but he wasn't interested. So if Pudding walks past your house you could have your culprit, it's owner is obviously a leaver! :x

I think the best thing if you see someone out with their dog crapping (the dog that is) and not picking it up is see where they live and simply deliver it through their letterbox.

But please do what they do........Don't bother with a bag.

Have to bring this up AGAIN. I know the offenders may not read this and although we have been requested to put something in the next Newsletter they may not read that either. I know if people are approached they can (and have) become defensive and angry, perhaps more that they have been caught out but please, if you are one of these people do the decent thing and clear up after the dog you are walking. Many of the green areas are public spaces where the kids play around. The hospital land belongs to the hospital and the patients use that for their walks. When the gardeners cut the grass they are sprayed with the stuff. For one regular walker who feels that he has a right to reply that he "would walk his dog where he liked", most folk, both dog and non dog lovers would argue vehemently with that especially if he feels that right extends to leaving the dog's last meal. It doesn't matter if there's already poo there, leaving more does not make it OK.
If anyone thinks we need more bins let me know.

NO, WE DON'T NEED ANYMORE BINS, THANK YOU.

They are an eyesore and a further added burden to the tax payer.

Fine a few offenders and maybe the message will eventually get through.
