Ian:
I too had a wonderful late afternoon at the Community BBQ yesterday (22nd July).
What has been annoying me is the many excuses made by local residents. They keep complaining to me about traffic on Long Leys Road, noise from children that sometimes play together outside nearby properties, not happy about the grass verges and footpaths not far from their homes being cut by the local authority to their liking but, won't lift a finger to get involved in doing anything about it. They expect the LLRA to do it for them. They appear to whinge and whinge, but that's all.
When it comes to LLRA general public mettings and LLRA socials, they keep making excuses of doing something else. A typical excuse on LLRA events has been...I have a dinner date, can't come. End of story.
I wish I could afford going out on dinner dates each time they approach me on a residential problem concerning them, as an excuse.
Then having a dinner date could excuse me for not doing the shared washing up and the housework that needs to be done. My wife would then get fed up and ask me for a divorce of not pulling my weight!
I just wish people are less selfish when it comes down building a community for the community and play a part instead of giving the impression " I am all Jack, blow anything or anyone else."
The community of Tewkesbury have just realised what a disaster can do in bringing residents and people together and working for a common cause. The flooding last week and this week has most certainly done this.
Does it need a catastrophe for the Urban Village and its community on Long Leys Road, to bring people together.
It could be so when looking at the weather forecast for Lincoln and the surrounding areas this Wednesday, 25th July.
A huge deluge of heavy rainfall is heading our way.
Perhaps those who wish not to get involved with its community, will use their inflatable rubber dinghies tucked away in their garages, in riding the flood waters that is most likely to come down Long Leys Road, their roads and streets, together with the water that will come down from Burton Ridge... instead of speeding on Long Leys Road with their 4x4s and high performance cars and soaking everyone on leaving the area in the process!
John.
PS... well done and thanks to the LLRA for organising the BBQ.
