Hi Tony (and Carol):

Welcome on board to the Forum.
Thanks for introducing yourself and coming to the LLRA AGM last Tuesday evening.
For news updates and information coming your way regarding Baker's Field, I would suggest that you post them under the title of "Exploratory work in field immediately next to St Georges" which was first started by Gary in October 2007.
So far it has 16,472 hits which has been amazing. It is thanks to James who set up the web site way back in lated 2006.
Lots of people, including councill officers of both City Hall and County Hall, including their councillors, view this web site regularly to glean imformation as to what is happening to our Urban Village.
They are looking too at Gary's first posting concerning Baker's Field. Even other resident associations in parts of the city of Lincoln are keeping a keen eye as to what goes on in the Long Leys Road area and learning from our experiences.
What was encouraging ,is that Linda Fry, the county council officer who let residents in the back door at County Hall for the LLRA AGM, is a regular reader too in looking at news on the St Georges web site.
So don't be afraid to give your views and comments, especially the controversial proposed cemetery. With this, use Gary's topic title which I am sure more hits will be made as 2008 progresses.
I, for one, will continue to help in keeping Baker's Field for the use as a riding school and horse grazing.
I hope our residents will support this too and well as with people who live in Lincoln and outside its boundary.

John, as ever reporting.

Just to update anyone who is interested and i know there are quite a few.the field is going back into the hands of lincoln city council on the 4th april 2010 and we are to vacate then.Excavation works to expose any roman remains will take place at the bottom end near the house of worship as from the 6th april and construction of the new cemetry will also commence .as agreed with the council at planing stage an access route up the side of the cemetry will be provided so we can access the far field.a replacement field is still in negotiation but very sadly you will no longer see horses from some of your houses. They will certainly miss your apples and affection that you have shown them over the fences. Thanks for your support on this issue.

Tony, is access to the far field a permanent arrangement and is it up the houses side so that you can still get there from your house. If not, are they going to allow temporary access up from your side? If not, is it a definite no or is it worth pursuing? Obviously I realise it could be better not to pursue as if you can still physically access you could keep doing so whereas if you ask and they say 'no' it's then set in stone that you can't.

Hope that makes sense!

Deb.The access is from the amenity area of the cemetry on the north east corner up the hedge row on the north side. The road way on the planing application is marked on there. We are to share access with the funerals when in full swing through the existing gateway on longleys rd.they would prefer it to seperated but the planing shows it not and access is safer at the existing point as per the original planning application rather than the suggestion yesterday further down near the next entrance, this would be a bigger danger due to the blind summit and its approach to the cemetry entrance.i had a meeting at the council offices yesterday and pointed out to them that the boundary on the south side adj houses was the residents and not the councils and personally i do not want an extra fence putting up ,especially a 1.50 mt high metal palisade fence as once mentioned at a planing meeting.i am sure gary would not with his outlook.for him it would be like been behind bars, maybe some would say a good place for him. :lol:Sorry Gary . They are going to consult with other residents on this,i was only 1 out of say 20.My work is cut out over the next few weekends demolishing buildings and other objects to return field back to what it was 46years ago. i wonder if anybody can remember. I AM looking to get rid of scrap metal and a big mobile home to the local gypsy if i can find him normally they find it first!.IF ANYBODY WANTS TO WEIGHT IT IN, IT'S CURRENTLY £100 /TON .tony

This is an update regarding work commencing on the cemetery. It came from the projects development manager at the City of Lincoln Council.

Mr Shipton

Further to your previous email to Steve Lockwood in respect of the proposed new burial ground at Long Leys Road, I have been asked to inform you of forthcoming works.

The Authority is currently erecting fencing to the proposed track that will allow the riding school access to their paddock on the northern boundary, from the site to Long Leys Road.

On 5 April 2010, Allen Archaeology have arranged to take plant to the site, ready for their investigations work to commence on 6 April 2010. They will undertake the excavation of the area close to Long Leys Road, and then will spend several weeks undertaking further investigations.

It is hoped that all works will be carried out with the very minimum inconvenience to local residents.

well the excavations have started and the finds are rich of roman remains.talking to the archaeologist today they could do with some help.they have found some very important history of the roman occupation of lincoln and its outlaying settlement with buildings occupied by a person of rank.it is very interesting . get involved, unfortunately it will all be gone and lost in 4weeks when they cover it up forever and build our new cemetery car park on it.Tony

Tony. This is good news. Make sure that the media know about the Roman findings which have been found underneath. I will be asking John Shipton to follow up what you said about this with his contacts in the media. Should make a wonderful story on BBC Looknorth. Perhaps the media interest will cause a proper archeaology dig for Lincoln before everything else is concreted over. Thanks for keeping people informed.

This is for you Tony. The Echo has quickly responded. This is an exciting find for Lincoln and found on our patch. Hopefully, TV and radio will respond later. Perhaps other local residents will now get involved. There was a saying during WW2 "Lets dig for Britain." Lets dig for Lincoln before sites are destroyed and concreted over for ever witholding our hidden heritage, especially for the younger generation.

With regards.

John.

Dear Mr Shipton

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, one of our reporters will give Tony Wilson a call to get some more information.

Best wishes
