AUCTION LEAFLET - LINCOLN CITY - SUNDAY 28th OCTOBER

Postby James » Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:31 pm

Hi!

We all appear to have had leaflets through our doors tempting us to the football ground tomorrow for an auction where we can get bargains...

Please Please Please.. do some research (don't just take my word for it) In my personal opinion this is a scam...

It is what they call a mock auction...

Do a Google search for

Code: Select all
"Diamond Sales" M24 6UN
- the info on the leaflet...

The main links you will get are from forums.moneysavingexpert.com

This site is run by the chap who was on TV last night about recovering money from PPI policies, he is also behind the bank charge and credit card reclaiming that is going on in the UK...

(Because of the PPI program last night his site is not working due to load, but if you click the 'cached' link in Google you can see the old pages that have posts like:

I saw an advert in the paper for the above and they were offering PSP,Wii's,XBox's for £25.

I knew it must be dodgy but i attended anyway and well they sold a Nokia 8800,Ipod and PSP in a set for £10 ! ! !

I didnt bid for anything only stayed for ten minutes but surely it must have been a con! maybe you got a box full of bricks?

It was like something off the "real Hustle" !

Anyone been and actually bought something?

They provided us with contact details - an email address!
The website they gave was http://www.diamond-auction-sales.co.uk

The scam is usually the first lot goes for quite cheap as people are wary about these things and probably goes to a plant in the crowd. Now they have cunningly worded what they say and everyone thinks wow I'll get a PS3 for £15 but end up with a couple of saucepans instead

it works like this, Various people in the crowd are plants, they will be the ones that manage to get the xbox 360 for £20 and the like and they hand everything back at the end once everyone is gone. The selling of these high vlaue items at low prices convinces the people who are about to get conned that everything they sell for this price will be worth much more. One of the most common items they then sell are watches that are worth a couple of pounds at most but they sell for £10/20. It actually was on the 2nd series of the Real Hustle.

this is exactly how they work. i was conned about 6 years ago, they are very clever at how they do it. they even make sure you have cash on you or they turn you away, they dont let you open the bag you have won until you are outside and the shutters have gone down on shop and everyone disappears, they say its because you dont want to cause a row on the premises as you may have got more than someone else .. crap. i parted with a fiver initally and that got me a ball point pen and £60 got me a mini tape system i could have bought in argos for £20. i am not guillable by any means and i was well taken in. there were loads of them around in london at the time, they would pop up in a shop that had recently closed be there a few weeks then gone. i went back the next week and tried to see what was going on.i even spotted people behind the counter that had bought a min tv for a fiver the day before. tried watching the whole scandal but as soon as they saw i was not parting with any money they asked me politely to leave and let someone else get a look in. as there were queues outside. once you got in all doors were closed and bouncers huge bouncers were put on door. hung about a bit outside and saw few people in queue from day before wanting to take stuff back but was told not there problem, you knew what you were getting into. like i said they were very careful in how they worded things and you really didnt have a leg to stand on. they thankfully all disappeared with about 6 months. have not seen any around now for years. be careful is all i will say!!

How many other people came down in the last shower! people who fall for this are just dumbbbbbbbbbbbbbb!!!

Oh, one other thing... don't pay by card thinking you are protected, the chances are they will keep your card details and covertly film your pin number...

Sorry for such a long post... but I thought I'd gather my findings together...

If anyone does go.. please post your findings... I'd love to be proved wrong, but if something looks too good to be true.... :?

Cheers

Hi all...

Well done James for exposing one of many scams that are operating throughout the UK.
The television programme called BBC Watchdog did a story on such auctions and sales which incorporated scams to gullible people who wanted to buy electrical items on the cheap.
These have been going on for some years now some of which started from well known boot sales held at various venues in the UK. This even occurred at one of the empty shops on the sea front at Skegness which was rented for a short period.
The goods which were sold at special knock down prices were found to be faulty and just did not work. By the time the local Standards Officer was brought in, those operating the scam disappeared and the office address and company name used, turned out to be bogus and the premises vacated.
Lots of people lost their money in buying such goods and several operators moved away from the UK and chose to live in countries where they could not be prosecuted and when found and confronted, were found to be living luxurious life styles from ill-gained profits made from sales scams.
So be aware and be on your guard.
I wonder will a similar situation happen again at Lincoln City Football ground?
