What I don't understand is this or am I just being stupid:

If the cars are left insecure, they must be left insecure on purpose or how would the owners know they are insecure !!! and secondly, if they are insecure then surely they HAVE NOT been broken into.

Steve

I think the point the Police are try to make is that the criminal(s) in question are targeting vehicles that are left insecure and probably making untidy searches of them in an attempt to find items of value. I don't really understand the point you are trying to make but the message clearly is - Lock your vehicles up at night!

I just can't undersatnd why anyone would want to leave a car insecure when it's so easy and should be second nature just to lock them.

The police are only giving advice. It is the same as leaving unlocked doors open both front and back, leaving doors ajar for a few moments, and open kitchen windows, etc. It just takes a few moments for a break in. This is happening in the West End with student accommodation and motorists leaving valueables in their cars for all to see.
Just a precaution!
