This mail is to make you aware of a recent scam that has been spreading through the country, as yet there have been no incidents in Lincoln but is is better to be pre warned-
This device is nothing more than a piece of plastic and when fitted over the cash dispensing slot of an ATM,
prevents the notes from being dispensed.
Typical reactions by customers using a machine which has a cash trap fitted
are to believe there is a fault with the machine, simply retrieve their card and
walk away.
The machine itself understands it has encountered a problem with dispensing
cash and attempts to purge the notes back into the machine. However, due
to the rear of the cash trap having a very sticky double sided tape fitted,
some of the cash sticks to tape and remains behind the trap.
At this point, the offender returns and simply removes the device with the
notes still attached to it.
Peak time for deployment of cash trap devices is generally outside normal
banking hours and due to the nature of this offence, the offenders
will not be very far away from the ATM while the trap is in place.
Please be vigilant when using cash machines and report anything suspicious to the police on 0300 111 0300
