Tree down on Higson steps

Postby deb » Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:28 pm

Some trees have been cut down by the seating area at the top of the steps - they haven't fallen. I have moved them as best I can so that you can push past the branches and have contacted a friend with a chainsaw who will remove them to use for firewood tonight/tomorrow. At lunch I heard what I thought was a chainsaw but it was roofers with a masonry cutter and they had neither heard nor seen anything. It is slightly worrying that someone is out with a chainsaw simply for the fun of felling a tree...and then leaving the blockage and damage behind.

I do not have Tony's number but if anyone does could they ring him and let him know that the fencing is now leaning at the top and part of the barbed wire has been snapped away by the weight.

thankyou for the info.at the moment the field is out of use due to vandals cutting the barb wire at the top in the north east corner.i personaly put new wire up 2 weeks ago and within say 3hrs it was all cut down.the police were informed about the horses escaping and the damaged done.if any body does now of the culprit the police are awaiting details to take action.as you can imagine 23 loose horses on the road is a danger not just to them but will certainly be one to a car driver.3 years ago the local vet was killed by a stray horse on the road hitting his car.we also have builders in the field trying to rectify the collaping wall behind the 3 houses facing upthe hill. the field in 9 weeks time will be a free for all.the lease we have is terminated and the land is ear marked once planning approved to be a garden of rememberance for the new cemetry that starts construction in april this year.

I suspect the barbed wire cutting is dog walkers who feel they are exercising some 'right to roam' not giving any thought to the horses or to people like you that have to pay for and maintain the land.

The council responded quickly to the felled tree and they found a hand saw abandoned. Incredible that people would want to go to the effort of sawing down trees that thick, by hand, for fun! Assuring them that the logs would be cleared, my friend followed after them an hour later so the site and path is now cleared and passable.

Good luck with the move Tony.

Once again the barbed wire has been cut boardering the fields off of the Higson steps the extend of the damage seems to be mindless and can only be seen as someone trying to gain access to the field. What the 'person' might not realise is this damage is a criminal offence and is also an 'Arrestable offence'.
If anyone has any information as to who is repeatedly doing this please E-mail me- Pcso Waldren
melanie.waldren@lincs.pnn.police.uk
If you are in the area and see anyone acting suspiciously please don't hesitate to call the police. Regular patrols are being done in the area and anyone found cutting the wire will be arrested.
