Dear all,

I wanted local residents to know how matters are progressing with the development of the former Social Education Centre site on Long Leys Road.

As you know, the County Council are looking to re-develop the site and are trying to work up proposals that would bring some housing on to the site together with community meeting facilities. To achieve that, planning permission would be needed from the City Council.

Discussions have been ongoing for some considerable time between officers of the City and County Councils to try to achieve agreement in principle. Those discussions continue.

I have pressed senior County Council officers to recognise that more urgent action is now needed.
