Can you reccommend St.Georges Park??....

Postby possible_resident » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:09 pm

Hi, We are moving to Lincoln in Feb and have been looking for property in and around Lincoln. Having only been on a short visit to Lincoln I do not know any areas but I like the look of the houses in St. Georges Park area and feel the location would be great. I would be so so greatful if anyone could give me some advice on the area, good/bad points, also any feedback on local schools...we have a 5 year old and 2 year old twins. Also if anyone is looking at moving from the area we are looking for a 4 bed property with a garage. Again we would be very grateful for any feedback, many thanks, Jane

Hi Jane. I live in a four bed detached (they all have garages). I moved from a 2 and stayed on the estate because I like it so much. The estate has not yet been adopted by the council but it surely cannot be long now! The three main builders have been Henry Boot, David Wilson and Persimmons. I'm a Wilson's property and being modern the houses are cheap to run (I pay £60pm for gas and electric and I'm here all the time). My council tax is band D which is £1444.23 pa. Location wise, because I do not have a car, it's good for me as it's easy to walk into the Bail (20 mins via The Steps) town and waterfront (about 25/30 depending which part). There are buses from the estate though not necessarily at good times if your working pattern is too rigid. I like the green spaces both on the estate and West Common just over the road. For walking, the closest shops are probably the garages on both Burton and Carholme Roads and away from town we have Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and Morrissons. Lincoln is not a huge City so easy to get from the cobbled top end down to the modern outdoor pavement eating places of the Waterfront. We have two major events a year (think!), The Lincolnshire Show and The Christmas Market which will be looked on differently by different locals depending on the disruption they cause you because they are extremely popular! There is an Odeon Cinema and I think now four theatre type venues - Royal, Drill Hall, LPAC and Engine Shed. We also have an Art Gallery and newly built Museum which has won awards, both of which are free to visit. Just on the edges we have two nature parks Whisby and Harstholme and those too are free to visit and also free to park in. There are golf clubs (all private I think), gyms and swimming pools (both private and council run) and at present a roller park in City Square in the centre of town which is the space where there is usually an ice rink in the winter. It has all I need for a place to live and some great neighbours too!

Any specifics you'd like to know just ask - someone will know the answer!

Hi Deb,

Thank you for your reply! It is really helpful information. I am looking forward to the move and myself and my husband are having a visit in October to look for a house, hopefully in St. Georges area, though the houses seem to sell pretty fast there, yet another good sign to move there!
Big thanks again deb, Jane

And don't forget the famous Red Arrows who are based at nearby RAF Scampton and the yearly Waddington Airshow at RAF Waddington.
On St Georges Park we have pilots, one who flies the Typhoon at RAF Coningsby, and another who flies from Wickenby aerodrome.
There are too a number of policemen and retired policemen who live in the Long Leys Road area.

Ha ha but also so true!!

Update on the G and E bills since the 'new appraisal' has just come through - that'll be £75 per month!
