i put to lcc about 2 years ago the danger children were putting themselves and other members of the public in by riding down the steps ' well tonight it has come to a head , and if sombody had been walking across the bottom of the steps by themselves or with children /dogs a very serious accident would have happened resulting in serious injury or worse !! lucky tonight it was only the idiot on the bike approx 12 years old hurt
he came down the hillside on his bike lost control could not but unlike the last idiot who 3 months ago who hit the wooden fence at the bottom so fast he snapped a 4x2 fence rail clean in half tonight this idiot hit the fence with even more force resulting in yet another 4x2 rail snapping but he was going so fast he went over the handle bars over the top of the fence landing some 8 feet across the tarmac narrowly missing a car parked damaging trees /shrubs and the bike did not miss the car it in fact damaged it
i was inside at the time but heard a loud crack rushing out i saw the lad picking himself up getting his bike up and trying to make a hasty get away after exchanging words chosen carfully as he was under 18 he got the point i think. he hobbled away with damaged bike slowing him down it turnes out he was not from stgeorges but the ermine but the bunch of lads with him were from here out of the group of 5. out of the 5 some were apologetic about it but 2 were very mouthy especally 1 of them i think about 10 or 11 years old !!!!!!!!!!
i dread to think what the outcome will be next time especially if they collide with someone
so could i as the llra to push for barrier to be placed at the foot of the steps to stop this happening again also could i ask from some help from helen also on this matter

The barrier needs to allow bikes and pushchairs through though something that would be a help to stop the kids hurting themselves. The other thing is that at the moment, both the path and bottom of the steps are slippy from all the soil dumped to finish off the green spaces, I've slipped a couple of times myself and doubtless any braking this lad would have done will have been useless. For the moment, I will contact DWH and ask them to clean the path and if that pile of top soil is still there after the weekend to do something about spreading that about too. It's been left a while so perhaps they hope the pile will 'sort itself' - I intend to go grab some!
The Council are supposed to come back to Pete re. the steps wishlist before they start so the danger point will be added.
