Letterboxes

Postby JT » Mon Mar 31, 2008 1:14 pm

Going round St George's posting things I noticed that a lot of letterboxes have not stood up to much wear and tear. On mine the spring which keeps the outside flap down has broken and in strong winds it makes quite a noise which we've cured by a lump of BluTak.

Some people have gone over to a separate box (even people without dogs).

Has anyone found where they can get replacement letterboxes or worked out how to take the original one off?

Depending on the type you have, usually to remove there are two screws which should be accessed internally by lifting the inner flap. If you then look around the internal brush seals the cross head screws are located centrally at either side of the opening usually obscured by the brush strips.

Replacements, if needed should be available through any good Builders Merchants such as Travis Perkins, referring for instance to the Premdor or similar brochure.
