My family has a business in the Culteral Quarter of Lincoln and myself after talking to a few local residents today who live there, these residents find themselves part of Carholme Ward. Some of the streets include The Strait, Steep Hill, Flaxengate and roads in and around The Collection museum.
A few questions were posed to them about the following...
a) Where was the urban village
b)What was involved about Baker's Field
c) Does the West Common need protecting
d) What is being built on the E2v site and
e) What ward does the University of Lincoln come under
In answer to a)...was this Nettleham/Welton/Burton Waters
to b) housing development
with c) did not concern them as they don't use it
d) sport facilities for the university
and e) have not a clue
Yet these folk will be voting at the May elections. They did not know who their councillors are and gave the impression not bothered about voting.
What was intriguing was that they felt that Lincoln City Council was not interested in them as they lived on the out skirts of Carholme Ward. Business and shops came first before people!
Now this is interesting too. There are streets off Burton Road which are part of Carholme Ward too. Last year, residents there received letters from Lincoln City Council on planning applications concerning the so-called village shop. They were bemused by this as the village shop was nowhere near them and would not use it as it was too far to travel and having to use Higson Road steps to get there. They were not interested as to what happened to the premises. They received letters but, residents on St Georges Park did not.
I wonder if our serving and previous councillors knew about these streets/roads? Because it appears that candidates unintentionaly have ignored canvasing their votes or ever paid them a visit in the past!
It is amazing what comes to light!
