The service that leaves St Georges at 8.45 a.m. is far too late for people to get to work and now, apparently, the over 60s can't use their bus passes because it's before 9.30 a.m. The next bus is 10.45 a.m. and is also the first "free" bus they can get to the city centre, unless they pay a single fare into town. This 2 hour gap is because the bus company is off to do school runs. The last bus returning from the city is 5.00 p.m. (too early for those who work until 5.30 p.m. or later), there's no Sunday or Bank Holiday service. Well....so much for being able to use bus passes up to 11.00p.m.
Why is it, we are told, that everyone has cars and so there's not much use of the bus service. Are residents of the West End of Lincoln any richer than the rest of Lincoln - I don't think so.
I believe, in the past, there have been complaints about the bus stopping around the St Georges estate - probably by people who drive up to their front doors with the weeks shopping and don't have to carry it uphill/several roads away from a bus stop. And as for the groans from people who were concerned about the lack of parking spaces outside a would-be corner shop when they needed a pint of milk or newspaper.....is a car really necessary? Try standing at the city bus stop when the bus doesn't turn up and your frozen food is starting to thaw after waiting an hour for the next bus
